Motorised Treadmill

There are countless treadmills out there, which differ in their specification and price range. It is important you make the best decision for your needs, and you should always consider the points below.

Motorised Treadmill – What to Consider?

So you want to buy a motorised treadmill but what should you look out for? Below are some of the most important points you should consider.

Motor – A motor must be able to work efficiently and last with the important job it has. This is the heart of your treadmill and what keeps your treadmill running. For most users a 1.5 HP (horse power) motor will be a minimum, suitable for users weighing up to 18 stones. Although this is a minimum, the simple rule is, the better the motor, the more efficiently the treadmill will run.

We recommend your treadmill has at least a 1.5 HP motor.

Incline Range – Incline range can be fixed, manual or power. With a fixed incline range, the incline of the treadmill is just that, ‘fixed’, and cannot be changed. Such treadmills are now uncommon. A manual incline allows you to change the incline level manually. This can only be done when you are not actually running on the treadmill. This can be inconvenient for most users. Finally, a power incline range (which is the most popular form) allows you to adjust the incline level using controls, during the workout itself. This is ideal for almost all users, since it allows you to vary your workout as you are running.

Aside from what sort of incline there is, you must also consider the actual incline range. Incline workouts can be very beneficial, and many users like to incorporate them into their workouts.

We recommend a 0-10% power incline treadmill.

Speed Range – This depends largely on the purpose of the treadmill and your fitness level. If you plan to only walk on your treadmill then this will not be an issue. For most users who will run, a speed of up to 8mph (miles per hour) is more than enough for the purposes of jogging and running. However more serious/experienced runners will want to consider a treadmill that has a speed up to 10mph.

We recommend a treadmill with a speed range of at least 8mph or 14km/h which is suitable for most users.

Features & Programmes – Almost all treadmills have electronic feedback, such as speed time and distance displays. However treadmills with pre-set workouts and programmes that target specific goals like fat loss, cardio and such are also available. You can also purchase motorised treadmills that store personalised programmes and a record of your workouts. Some treadmills also have heart rate controlled programmes, which calculate the zone you should work out at for maximum benefits (such as fat loss/cardio). These are all useful extras, however will largely be dictated by your budget. From our experience, heart rate controlled programs can be extremely beneficial to the vast majority of users as they will allow you to track your progress and keep your motivated during your workout. You will also have the added benefit of knowing that you are specifically working towards your goal.

We recommend basic electronic feedback at the least, and think you should carefully consider which extra features (such as heart rate controlled programmes) may benefit you personally.

Warranty – Its is imporant you get value for money, especially with complex machines such as treadmills. You don’t want to be spending money on any treadmill only for it to break down on you within a few months! Please check the warranty given with the treadmill at the website you are purchasing from – the information will be provided.

We recommend at least a 2 years parts/labour/other components warranty.

Brand – The brand matters, as some are well-established in producing quality motorised treadmills while others are not. To see a list of brands you can trust, click here. Other points you may consider:

  • Folding or Non-Folding – Recent advancements have meant that folding treadmills are just as good as stationary treadmills. It really comes down to whether you have a designated space to keep your treadmill. Even if you have, a folding treadmill can still do the job well. Since it can be moved around easily, a folding treadmill is more convenient for most users.
  • Running Surface Length – The belt surface must be able to handle your running strides, and natural side to side movement whilst you are running. We recommend that the surface is at least 15.5/16 inches (or 41cm) in width, and at least 50 inches (or 125cm) in length. However taller users may require a greater surface length, more than 54 inches.
  • Shock Absorption – Does the treadmill have any special shock absorption features? This will allow your running to be that little bit smoother. Running can also cause discomfort to the joints. Although this is not a ‘must have’ requirement, a treadmill made with some sort of shock absorption may appeal to some users who have had joint pains in the past.

Motorised Treadmill

Not convinced a Treadmill is right for you?

Treadmills can be a fantastic addition to any home, as more and more users are enjoying the benefits of being able to workout at home. Below are some of the important advantages of a motorised treadmill. Your biggest motivation should always be the desire to exercise and improve your health. If you feel that you can benefit from a motorised treadmill, then you should make a commitment today.

Motorised Treadmill Benefits

Convenience – If you had to pick the unique selling point of motorised treadmills, this would be it! Forget having to run outside on a cold, rainy, dark day. You can avoid putting yourself through such agony. Even finding the time to go down to the gym regularly can be difficult. In our busy lives, owning a motorised treadmill solves these problems. You can exercise more often and whenever you want. And since we can all walk, a treadmill is easy to operate.

Physical Benefits – Exercising on a motorised treadmill has fantastic benefits. Not only will it help you get in shape, but it vastly improves your cardiovascular system and aerobic capacity. So you will improve your fitness over time. Motorised treadmills are also great for losing body fat, they burn calories and tone-up those leg muscles. Your long-term health will improve, and you will notice an increase in your energy levels. The physcological benefits of exercise include being happier, even improving confidence.

Low-Impact Workouts – Years of walking and running on hard surfaces such as concrete will take its toll on the feet, legs and hips. Many treadmills reduce the stress placed on your joints.

Cost – Investing in a good quality motorised treadmill can save you money in the long-term, as compared to paying a monthly gym subscription fee over a few years, with the cost of travel (fares or petrol) weighed in.
